What is funded
The group led by Dr. Juana María García Pedrero within the Head and Neck Oncology Unit at the Instituto Universitario de Oncología del Principado de Asturias (IUOPA) focuses on the study of genetic/molecular alterations involved in the formation and progression of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) to establish their potential clinical applicability as diagnostic/prognostic markers and new therapeutic targets. This group is currently looking for a postdoctoral candidate willing to apply for a “Sara Borrell” fellowship co-funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII).
- A young / dynamic basic and clinical research environment.
- Participation in a translational research project funded by ISCIII (PI16/00280) aimed to:
i) Study the interaction between the tumor and its surrounding microenvironment, investigating the role of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumor progression to develop more effective therapies targeting both the tumor and the surrounding estroma.
ii) Search for novel biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and disease surveillance in saliva liquid biopsy.
- 3 years contract according to the Sara Borrell Call.
-PhD awarded after January 2013
-Previous postdoctoral stays will be highly valued
-Ability to work independently and as a team player.
-Great organization and communication skills. Scientific writing abilities.
-At least 2-3 first author publications in solid peer-reviewed journals.
-Excellent skills in cell biology (2D and 3D cell culture techniques), molecular biology and biochemistry are essential.
-Expertise in some of the next areas of cancer research will be valued:
(i) Tumor microenvironment research
(ii) miRNAs research
(iii) In vivo biology research (xenografts/animal models)
(iv) Computational biology and next generation sequencing
